University of Denver Floyd M. Theard Memorial Golf Tournament

October 6th, 2008 by Neil Corman

Today the University of Denver held the Floyd M. Theard Memorial Golf Tournament at Green Valley Ranch Golf Course.  The tournament was originally scheduled to be held in September, however it was postponed until today due to weather on the earlier date.  Last evening in Denver it rained pretty well, however this morning blue skies with a few clouds was the weather allowing the tournament to take place.

During the tournament I was given a cart and roamed the course taking images of the particpants having a good time and enjoying a day of golf.  The following are just a few of the many images taken during the event.

From just off the green a team chips and tries to get close to the hole.

A golfer celebrates as a putt drops in the hole.

Boulder Colorado

October 5th, 2008 by Neil Corman

Yesterday as I was heading back from the Peak to Peak Higway, I stopped in Boulder for a little while and took some images.  I am currently renting a Tilt/Shift lens, and was looking at some of the perspectives it can provide with just a few adjustments.  The following is the Courthouse just off the Pearl Street Mall.

October 4th, 2008 by Neil Corman

The Rocky Mountain School of Photography 2009 catalog is now hitting the streets with their workshops and professional training courses for this upcoming year.  I was one of the student profiles for the catalog, as a result of a professional training class I took last summer.  In addition to the workshops and professional training they also have weekend courses starting in January across the country.

2008 Baseball Season

October 1st, 2008 by Neil Corman

With the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox playing an extra game last evening to determine the winner of the American League Central, the 2008 baseball regular season is now complete.  This year there was the lowest number of home runs hit in over ten years, which may be a result of better drug testing and stronger penalties for people found testing positive for a banned substance.  Now that the season is over, I figured it would be a good chance to look back at the predictions I made earlier this year at the start of the season as well and the All Star break.

National League

West

  • Initial Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks
  • Updated Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers
  • Final Result: Los Angeles Dodgers

Central

  • Initial Pick: Chicago Cubs
  • Updated Pick: Chicago Cubs
  • Final Result: Chicago Cubs

East

  • Initial Pick: New York Mets
  • Updated Pick: New York Mets
  • Final Result: Philadelphia Phillies

Wild Card

  • Initial Pick: Atlanta Braves
  • Updated Pick: Milwaukee Brewers
  • Final Result: Milwaukee Brewers

American League

West

  • Initial Pick: Anaheim Angels (or Los Angeles Angels, or Orange County Angels)
  • Updated Pick: Anaheim Angels (or Los Angeles Angels, or Orange County Angels)
  • Final Result: Anaheim Angels (or Los Angeles Angels, or Orange County Angels)

Central

  • Initial Pick: Detroit Tigers
  • Updated Pick: Chicago White Sox
  • Final Result: Chicago White Sox

East

  • Initial Pick: New York Yankees
  • Updated Pick: Boston Red Sox
  • Final Result: Tampa Bay Rays

Wild Card

  • Initial Pick: Cleveland Indians
  • Updated Pick: Tampa Bay Rays
  • Final Result: Boston Red Sox

With all of the surprises this season it was a little tough to pick them divisions this year, bringing some excitement to the game.  I was 2 for 8 (25%) on my initial predictions and based on the mid-season changes went 5 for 8 (62.5%), but considering I got the Rays and Red Sox switched it was even better as both of those teams made the playoffs.

Now it is the start of October and the season is new. We will see how the playoffs play out over the next few weeks.  I won’t put any predictions out there for now, but I am sure you know who I will be rooting for this year.
