Plaster City, California (Day 26)

November 26th, 2008 by Neil Corman

Located along Imperial County Road 80 is Plaster City an unincorporated place within the county.  As most people would travel on Interstate 8, travelers will see the ‘City’ from the south but not drive through the location.  As the best I can tell Plaster City is a US Gypsum plant manufacturing SHEETROCK brand gypsum panels with materials from the nearby quarry connected by a narrow gauge railroad. Driving west towards Plaster City, the overnight and morning rain had just ended and the clouds were starting to clear.  I was noticing the darker pavement from the rain which was looking nice for contrast with the landscape, but just prior to stopping along the road the sun came out providing the Day 26 image of Plaster City.

Stop by tomorrow for Day 27 of Thirty Days 2008.

I think this is my favorite of the whole month. The composition is spot on. Beautifully composed. And I think the post-processing (darkening the road, popping sat & contrast) really adds to the effect of bringing the eye through the frame from front to back.
