On Broadway (Day 21)

November 21st, 2008 by Neil Corman

As I headed to Meininger’s to pick up some poly packs for note cards, I headed down Broadway and found the image for Day 21.  Heading south on Broadway out of downtown I have always noticed the feeling of the open road heading south.  Yes this was taken from a car and caution was taken while getting the image.

Stop by tomorrow for Day 22 of Thirty Days 2008.  Also if you are interested in note cards or holiday cards let me know as this is a new offering being rolled out soon.

Colorado State Capitol from the South (Day 20)

November 20th, 2008 by Neil Corman

As you walk north on Sherman towards downtown the dome of the capitol is the center of the view while in the middle of the street.  The steam coming out of the building nearby the capitol is a sign of the thirty degree temperature drop since yesterday.  While it is suppose to be cooler in November with weather the past few days bringing highs in the 60′s and 70′s the change into the 30′s today it was a major change to all.

Stop by tomorrow for Day 21 of Thirty Days 2008.

Grocery Store (Day 19)

November 19th, 2008 by Neil Corman

It has been quite warm for a November in Denver, and today I walked over to the grocery store to pick up some items.  As I walked towards the King Soopers, I took some snap shots as well as when I was in the store.  However it were the carts along the side of the building which showed some nice patterns grabbing my attention today.  As the sun glistened off the side of the metal a high contrast image was the best direction to go with the final product for Day 19.

Stop by tomorrow for Day 20 of Thirty Days 2008.

Colfax Avenue (Day 18)

November 18th, 2008 by Neil Corman

If you have lived in Denver or even visited you probably have some story involving Colfax Avenue.  Named after Schuyler Colfax the street is also US 40 for the 26 miles it runs through the Denver Metro area.  As I was walking down Colfax today towards downtown, it was a picture wanting to happen and thus the Day 18 image.  With my Canon G9 point and shoot I took some images in the late morning sun trying to give a good sense of the street.  As I was just east of downtown from that area the State Capitol building is always something which is thought about as Colfax passes to the north of the building.

Now Colfax does vary along the 26 mile stretch and an effort to change the reputation and image is always in progress along different parts of the street which have been successful.  But to a lot of people this street will always be thought of in the same manner.

What’s your story regarding Colfax?

Alamo Placita Park (Day 17)

November 17th, 2008 by Neil Corman

For the 17th day of Thirty Days 2008 I headed to a park I have passed many times while traveling on Speer Blvd but never realized what it consisted of as I sped on past the park.  Alamo Placita Park is one of those parks which people have seen, but never have stopped more so as it is a small neighborhood park.  Even the City and County of Denver website has limited information about the park itself.  Walking around the park the image I wanted to walk away with was easily the tie in to Speer and the limited knowledge of the park.  As it was near sunset I first thought about the lights of cars passing by the park, but seeing this set of stairs leading into the park this was a good place to start with the traffic taking the background.  At first I was going to leave this as a color image, but once the sun set the color of the stone was most distracting under the nearby lights so I converted it to a black and white image which I feel helps tell the story of the lesser known park.

Stop by tomorrow for Day 18 of Thirty Days 2008.

Into the City (Day 16)

November 16th, 2008 by Neil Corman

For Day 16 of Thirty Days 2008, I headed to downtown Denver and from the lawn of the State Capitol looked to capture a twilight image.  With a couple of shots in mind, I used a couple of locations but the following image was the one I wanted to use for Day 16.

Looking towards the State of Colorado Judicial building and City of Denver Library in the background the slight hint of headlights shows the different patterns people are taking along Lincoln Avenue.  As these cars pass there is a person on the corner just waiting for their turn to head on their way this nice November evening.

Rocky Mountain National Park – Dream Lake (Day 15)

November 15th, 2008 by Neil Corman

I could have stayed in bed and continued dreaming, however for Day 15 of Thirty Days 2008 I headed to Rocky Mountain National Park and the Bear Lake area.  After photographing around Bear Lake at sunrise I hike a little over a mile to Dream Lake.  As usual there was a stuff wind, and once I got to Dream Lake it just started to howl.  I didn’t spend much time around the lake, as this was also a scouting mission for future trips towards Dream Lake later this winter.

On this scouting trip I realized towards the end of the hike I probably should have had some snowshoes with me, but it wasn’t too bad.  Also with my many layers I was good and know what is needed along the hike.

Stop by tomorrow for Day 16 of Thirty Days 2008.

First Snow in Denver 2008 (Day 14)

November 14th, 2008 by Neil Corman

This morning at 6:45 AM the National Weather Service declared the first snow in Denver and with a small amount of measurable snow we will not have the latest snowfall ever this year.  The latest first snowfall in Denver occurred on November 21, 1934 and the average date of first snowfall is October 19th so it was a little later than expected.  With the forecast for the next few days, if we did not get the snow today it would have been possible to break the record.

As it was warm yesterday the snow is not really sticking to the streets, but on other surfaces it is a different story. I headed down the street towards the Governors Residence and took the following image, of the snow on the fence as well as some of the remaining leaves.

Stop by tomorrow for Day 15 of Thirty Days 2008, and of course the snow will be long gone by then as the temperature warms back up for the weekend.

Grant-Humphreys Mansion (Day 13)

November 13th, 2008 by Neil Corman

Day 13 of Thirty Days 2008 brings us the Grant Humphreys Mansion located near Governors Park.  I guess it is appropriate for day 13, as I found out after the fact the mansion is haunted.  When taking the image I was thinking color all the way with the nice blue of the sky, green of the grass as well as some leaves in the tree; however with the nice contrast a change to black and white worked even better for this result.

Stop on back tomorrow for Day 14 of Thirty Days 2008 and maybe even something in color.
