Veteran’s Day – Day 11

November 11th, 2009 by Neil Corman

Once again Day 11 is Veteran’s Day and just as in past year I headed to Fort Logan National Cemetery here in Colorado to grab the image for today.  This year it was overcast when I was there and quite empty which has not been the case in the past years, but I may have also been there earlier this year.  Being in Colorado I wanted to include the mountains in a shot for this year, and came up with the following image after walking around the grounds for a while.

Denver Skyline – Day 10

November 10th, 2009 by Neil Corman

One of the nice things of doing the Thirty Days project each year is visiting places which were part of Thirty Days in the past and seeing how things changed.  On Day 10 of this year, there was some pollution in the sky so I wasn’t sure how that would impact sunset at all.  I decided to give it a chance and head to one of the areas just west of downtown Denver to get an evening photograph.  You may recall on the 150th birthday of Denver last year I was in the same spot, as today’s image.  There are some changes as buildings continue to add to the skyline of Denver, and unfortunately the colors from sunset hit further south resulting in the following dusk image for today.

Watching Paint Dry – Day 9

November 9th, 2009 by Neil Corman

There is an old saying when something is boring it is like watching paint dry.  During the summer month I found a paint can which dried up without any watching.  I believe this is some paint which is a couple of owners old, and when the can was looked at prior to disposing the can the result in the bottom of the can was interesting.  For the past few months it has sat in my garage, and today took a place in the spotlight under the camera lens.

Lighting the bottom was just using open shade to help make the light evenly distributed across the base, and then it was trying to find an interesting pattern through the viewfinder.  There were a couple of images which I thought about using, however the following was picked to be Day 9 of Thirty Days.

The paint can is still in my garage, so I may explore what is in the can some more in the upcoming weeks.

Lower Downtown Denver; Old and New – Day 8

November 8th, 2009 by Neil Corman

Day 8 of Thirty Days 2009 was a day I thought I would check out a couple of locations for some possible upcoming shoots.  While out scouting I had my camera with me, and with the overcast morning I wasn’t sure what I would find in the area.  However once I got to the general area, I found a few items which interested me photographically.  The image which was selected for Day 8 was a mix of the old and new which makes up Lower Downtown Denver, as this is the premise of the development of Lodo.

Disposable Camera – Day 7

November 7th, 2009 by Neil Corman

On the morning of Day 7 of Thirty Days 2009, I stopped by Lower Downtown Denver on the way to the gallery.  It was quiet early in the morning as I looked for an image in the Coors Field area.  As I got back to my car, I noticed a disposable camera which looked like it had a bad night lying next to a tree and got low to get a few images.  In reviewing the captures for the day this one just stood out to me, making it the image for Day 7.

Ringo – Day 6

November 6th, 2009 by Neil Corman

The sixth day of Thirty Days 2009 brought a First Friday opening and a busy day at gallery nrc.  I had hoped to get some images during the evening but was unable to find the time to do so.  However afterwards when I stopped by at Tennyson Photospace, the owners dog Ringo was chilling. I got low and started taking some pictures at high ISO, and then it got to a point where Ringo started put up his paw basically saying enough of the paparazzi for one evening.  As you can see, Ringo is a rescued greyhound.

Shadow on the Ground – Day 5

November 5th, 2009 by Neil Corman

As I was walking towards the Denver Library, I normally cut through the plaza area in front of the Denver Art Museum.  As I entered this area, I noticed the shadow of some railings which looked like hangers to me.  With interest in this, I stopped and grabbed some images and while getting low on the stairs found the Day 5 image of Thirty Days 2009.

Tennyson Photospace – Day 4

November 4th, 2009 by Neil Corman

This evening I was at gallery nrc working on some items for the upcoming First Friday.  As the sun set I decided to get the camera out and take some images.  The initial thought was getting Chris, the owner of Tennyson Photospace, working and then it morphed into some other possibilities.  However in reviewing the images it was back to the original idea for Day 4 of Thirty Days 2009.

Pocket Aces – Day 3

November 3rd, 2009 by Neil Corman

The image for today is a little different than you normally see on this blog.  I stepped inside the studio today and photographed some images which are to be used by my leads group.  Leads Group 7 meets at 11am, thus the 7/11 concept of using casino games for the new branding being worked on by members of the group.  After some of the shots we did this afternoon, I played around with the set-up and grabbed the following image this evening.  It may be time to move all in…

Sunset on Green Mountain – Day 2

November 2nd, 2009 by Neil Corman

Sometimes your plans just don’t happen as you hope they would.  This was the case this evening when I hiked up Green Mountain in Lakewood to try to get a shot of Denver and the rising full moon.  I was in the place I wanted to be, however the clouds prevented the moonrise from being visible at my location.  Getting to the location ahead of time to look at the options for the shot I was thinking about getting.  In addition to scouting the area, I also had the chance to photograph and as the sun was setting over the Rocky Mountains a trail runner and his dogs came down the path leading to the image for day two.
