As a business owner I feel strongly in giving back to the community and one way I do this is through the organization 1% for the Planet.  This organization brings businesses and environmental non-profits around the world together.  The premise is quite simple, 1% of the top line revenue each year is donated to the qualified non-profits. This may be one non-profit or multiple non-profits.

Last month I contributed 1% of my 2010 top line revenue to a non-profit organizations.  While there are many deserving non-profits out there, I decided to make a contribution to Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado for the second straight year.  The VOC provides “hands-on volunteer opportunities for Coloradoans to help protect, enhance, restore, and preserve our state’s natural resources”.  Using the natural resources in the state for hiking, camping as well as capturing photographs I feel that this is the right place to donate as a business.

On Thursday April 7th, the VOC will be hosting an open house to allow volunteers to learn about the upcoming projects this summer.  I plan to be at the open house to see what opportunities are available this summer and hope to see you as well.

For the past few months I had a contest for those traveling through the Denver Airport.  As part of the Creative Colorado exhibition, two pieces of my work were on display at Concourse A since the beginning of November.  By taking a photograph of the work and sending it to me you were entered in a drawing to win a matted print of one of the images.  With a little assistance from my gallery neighbor Kelly Schurger, one entry was randomly selected… Chris and Julie Rice.

These two pieces will now be part of forty pieces of art which will be on display at the State Capitol through June.  Once the transition takes place, I will post some additional details.

As part of the Creative Capitol exhibition program, I will have artwork on display at Denver International Airport through the end of February.  The exhibit includes 79 artists showing around 100 pieces in all mediums.  My work which was selected are Aircraft Departing and Union Station Snow.

During the Thanksgiving weekend I was able to see the display, which is on Concourse A (inside security).  The two pieces may be found at the northwest portion of the mezzanine level.

With Thanksgiving just a few days away, the holiday shopping season is quickly approaching.  While I do carry some pieces in stock, most items are created upon ordering which requires a couple of weeks to complete.  While this process may take a little longer, it allows you to select the size and type of finish for your print to make sure it will be a perfect addition to your wall.

To guarantee delivery by Christmas, your order must be received and paid for by the following dates:

If you are traveling through Denver International Airport this holiday season and will be beyond security, take a moment to see the artwork on display in the mezzanine of Concourse A.  There are around 110 pieces from 80 artists in the Denver Metro Area, and two of these pieces are photographs of mine (Aircraft Departing and Union Station Snow).

Currently Frontier, American, JetBlue, AeroMexico, British Airways, Air Canada, Lufthansa, Alaska, AirTran and Great Lakes are on Concourse A at DIA, however it is easy to get there from all of the concourses.  Also don’t forget sometimes the security at the bridge to Concourse A is the quickest.

The next I am through the airport, I will take some photographs of the exhibit and share on the blog.  However, let me know if you have the chance to see the work which is on display through the end of February 2011.

As today is Halloween, it is also the final day of October.

As I have done the past three years, Thirty Days 2010 will start tomorrow.  If you are new to following my blog, during the next thirty days I will go out and take at least one photograph every day and select one to post on the blog.  These images may be something I captured in a scheduled shoot (with client permission), planned location, or just a random item while heading down the street.  There is not a set rule on what type of camera I capture the image with, however it does have to have been taken on that day.

I am looking forward to this once again this year, and hope you will check back often to the blog during the month.  Also once again this year I will let you vote on your three favorites at the end of the Thirty Days.
