Thirty Days 2010: Starts Tomorrow

October 31st, 2010 by Neil Corman

As today is Halloween, it is also the final day of October.

As I have done the past three years, Thirty Days 2010 will start tomorrow.  If you are new to following my blog, during the next thirty days I will go out and take at least one photograph every day and select one to post on the blog.  These images may be something I captured in a scheduled shoot (with client permission), planned location, or just a random item while heading down the street.  There is not a set rule on what type of camera I capture the image with, however it does have to have been taken on that day.

I am looking forward to this once again this year, and hope you will check back often to the blog during the month.  Also once again this year I will let you vote on your three favorites at the end of the Thirty Days.

Giveaway: ASMP Professional Business Practices in Photography

October 11th, 2010 by Neil Corman

Since I became a professional photographer I have also been a member of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP).  The tools they offer to photographers in terms of tutorials, training and other resources covering the various aspects of the photography business are well worth the cost of membership.

Professional Business Practices in Photography is a book put together by ASMP which is currently in it’s seventh edition.  This book offers standard practices for your photography business as well as guidance on topics which all photographers will encounter while in business.  This past Friday at a seminar given by Susan Carr and hosted by ASMP Colorado, I won a copy of this book.  As I already own this book, I would like to pay it forward and give it to a reader of the blog.  To be eligible to win the book, all you need to do is post a comment to this blog entry by November 5, 2010 and you will be entered to win.  On November 6th, I will randomly pick one person from the blog comments to receive the book for free.

Art Show Booth Space

This past weekend, I participated in the Boulder Fall Festival which is my final art show of the year.  It was great to meet many of you at the various shows which I did this summer and fall, and thank you for all of your comments regarding my work.

If you did not get a chance to stop by a show this year, my work will be at gallery nrc during the month of October.  This Friday will be the First Friday Art Walk, so if you are in the area please do stop on by the gallery.

I am also starting to look at shows for 2011 and will make an announcement during the spring once I know the schedule of shows.

Two New Note Cards (Rocky Mountain News and Columbine Flower)

March 11th, 2010 by Neil Corman

Two new offerings are available as note cards from Neil Corman Photography.  Both of these 5×7 cards are printed on an art linen paper and blank inside so you may add your own message.  Whether you use the cards as a thank you note, a special occasion or anything else it will indeed be something special for the individual receiving the card.

Rocky Mountain News – Goodbye, Colorado

On Friday February 27, 2009 the Rocky Mountain News published their final edition. The News has been a part of Denver for almost as long as Denver was a city and this final edition marked the end of an era.  While the newspaper industry has been down the past few years, in the year since the final edition, this has been the most popular image sold at gallery nrc.  To help people remember the newspaper, it is now possible to the image as a note card.

Columbine Along the Trail

The columbine is the State Flower of Colorado, and in the early summer months they come out in full force in the mountains.  Due to the fragile status of this rare flower it is protected by state law on public and private lands.  While hiking as part of Team in Training in the summer of 2009, I found this columbine right along the trail in almost perfect form.  The fact that one petal is a little off drew me to capture this photograph.

Reaching out to Customers

January 5th, 2010 by Neil Corman

In photography as well as any business it is important to make a personal connection with a customer or prospect.  In these days it is so easy to just let be an ‘e’ contact as e-mail, twitter and the many other e-communication methods which exist at this time become a normal part of our lives.  One method which I use to connect to current customers as well as prospects is something which has been around for quite a while, a hand written note.

When visiting any local bookstore or card shop you will find the number of note cards they have on hand has been decreasing over the past few years.  In addition the cards on hand might not be what you would like to send.  One option you have is a custom note card from Neil Corman Photography which may use any image in the catalog.

Custom note cards are available in two sizes (4″ x 5.5″ and 5″ x 7″) and come in bundles of 25 with your choice of either a standard white or parchment envelope. The note cards are normally printed on an art watercolor paper as this provides the best result for the image, but there are additional paper options available. Additionally all custom note card orders include the opportunity to include your own custom text inside the card at no additional cost.

Let us know if you would like to discuss in more detail the pricing and options available for custom note cards and start making that personal contact with your current customers as well as those prospects you talk to in 2010.
