Hudson Road – Day 22

November 22nd, 2011 by Neil Corman

Hudson Road - Adams County Colorado

Where is Hudson Road may be the first question you ask yourself.  Yes there is a Hudson Street in the city of Denver which extends into the suburbs as well.  However Hudson Road is a north/south street about which is around 31000 E of Broadway, or 310 blocks.  The empty roads of the plains just east of Denver has always been an interesting place to travel as well as photograph.  In the distance you can see the snow covered mountains with open fields in the foreground.  Today instead of taking that type of photograph, I placed my camera low to get the detail of Hudson Road.  This crack in the road tells some of the story of the roads just outside of Denver on Day 22 of Thirty Days 2011.

Evening Rush – Day 21

November 21st, 2011 by Neil Corman

Denver Colorado Evening Rush

With the changes at Union Station there are new opportunities for photographs with the relocated light rail station.  I noticed this area a few days ago while photographing and decided to check out the locations this evening for Day 21 of Thirty Days 2011.  One thing I noticed is that the light rail does not run as frequently as one would hope to get this image and thus you only really get one chance to capture the image in the evening twilight.

Denver Reflection in the Morning – Day 20

November 20th, 2011 by Neil Corman

Reflection at the Gates Building in Denver

Walking around Denver this morning on a cool clear morning I was looking for something I have not noticed before while working around in the city.  I found there is plenty of items which fall into this category but not just with the new construction happening at this time.  This morning I noticed the light was mostly straight down the the numbered streets in the downtown area (if you are not familiar with downtown Denver they run on a SE/NW direction).

I took advantage of this direct light on Union Station and other buildings, but as I was walking back towards my car I spotted the strong sun on the above image.  With street construction in the area, I was able to stand in a recently paved area which was still closed to traffic and capture the image for Day 20 of Thirty Days 2011.

Kitchen – Day 19

November 19th, 2011 by Neil Corman

Kitchen Cooktop

Today I took an architectural photography workshop with Norman McGrath who is well known architectural photography based out of New York City.  The day consisted of watching him set up a few scenes in two different condos in Boulder.  We were then given the opportunity to photograph for a while in the location as well.  I focused on some detailed images as well as larger spaces during the time I took images.  The image for Day 19 of Thirty Days 2011 was a simple cooktop in one of the kitchens.  The tile on the back splash is what drew me to the spot and the image.

Afternoon Light – Day 18

November 18th, 2011 by Neil Corman

Afternoon Light

I was walking along Tennyson Street this afternoon looking for a photograph for Day 18 of Thirty Days 2011.  I stopped by Modestea to say hello when I noticed the afternoon light and reflections made in the front window.  After a quick hello, I photographed some of this light as it was quickly disappearing but not before being the image for Day 18.

Denver Foothills – Day 17

November 17th, 2011 by Neil Corman

Denver Colorado Foothills

It was a little breezy this morning while visiting the foothills west of Denver.  I started off with a standard image after the climb up I-70 towards Genesee and decided then to go for something else.  Heading back down towards Denver I stopped at the Mother Cabrini Shrine and after climbing and descending the 373 steps to the top I noticed the poles on the hill along with the interesting clouds.  Finding a good perspective I photographed the above image for Day 17 of Thirty Days 2011.

The Spire – Day 16

November 16th, 2011 by Neil Corman

The Spire Building - Denver Colorado

There are two new buildings on 14th Street in Denver.  The Spire and the Four Seasons Hotel & Private Residences.  One of these buildings has a spire on top, and of course it is not the Spire.  It was a nice clear day in Denver as I walked down 14th Street to a meeting I was photographing along the way.  Once I reached the convention center I had an idea for the photograph for today.  Standing in front of the main entrance to the building I looked up and took the photo.  I noticed the small tiles on the front of the building over the weekend while photographing in the area which is what I was wanting to include.  As I got to the location I positioned myself and decided to go with a wide angle to include the overhang and capture the image for Day 16 of Thirty Days 2011.

Reflection of a Tree – Day 15

November 15th, 2011 by Neil Corman

Reflection of a Tree

Earlier this week as I was waiting for a train to cross I noticed a small reservoir northwest of Denver.  Today I headed to Jim Baker Reservoir to walk on Day 15 of Thirty Days 2011.  It is 1.4 miles around the entire lake and there were plenty of people out enjoying the nice fall day in the area.  I started with photographing some rocks in the lake and as I was heading back to the car noticed the reflection of this tree which is the image for Day 15.

Regis University – Day 14

November 14th, 2011 by Neil Corman

Regis University - Denver, Colorado

One of the goals while photographing for Thirty Days is to visit places I have not been in the past, and today was one of those days as I walked around Regis University in northwest Denver.

With the gallery close to the campus, I had driven by Regis a few times and decided to stop by today as I was thinking of a location to explore this morning.  I walked around the small campus and after photographing some of the buildings decided to get an image of the Main Hall.  To make it a little different, I placed my camera low to the ground to bring in some of the grass and the photograph for Day 14 of Thirty Days 2011.

Reflecting on Denver – Day 13

November 13th, 2011 by Neil Corman

Denver Colorado Skyline Reflection

As I was out today for Day 13 of Thirty Days 2011, I was near the corner of Speer and Champa in the late afternoon take some pictures when a driver in a car at the red light started talking to me while he was waiting for the light to change.  He mentioned the reflection of the city on the building a block back from the direction he was driving.  As soon as he mentioned that I thought about it for a minute and knew what building he was talking about as I had noticed that scene before.  I was heading back in that direction to my car and stopped at the building to photograph the reflections and skyline of Denver.  Just as I was heading back to my car, I noticed a smaller area of glass and used this reflection to create the image for Day 13.
