A nice November morning brought me to the area around the Colorado Convention Center and the Denver Performing Arts Complex.  Walking around the area, I was looking of objects which could be interesting in an abstract manner as well as general tourism images.  As I walked by the convention center, I noticed the light hitting the metal on the outside of the building and created the image for Day 12 of Thirty Days 2011.

It is Veterans Day today here in the United States.  This year is the fifth iteration of Thirty Days, and the one common theme in all five years is visiting Fort Logan National Cemetery.  Each year I have looked for a different image to take at this location and while walking around the grounds this morning, I noticed a tree which was still full of fall foliage.  Playing with a few angles, I decided to get my camera quite low to the ground (without kneeling, due to the many geese which own the grounds) and play with a little different perspective this year.  The lenticular clouds also provided an interesting sky for Day 11 of Thirty Days 2011.

Last year during Thirty Days, I came across this spot while photographing at Commons Park.  The image I posted then was different than the image on Day 10 of Thirty Days 2011.  Using the buildings in Commons Park as a a foreground element to frame the skyline of Denver was my thought process for this image.  This is also the first image where I had planned for the whole day what the image would be for the day, and fortunately the weather cooperated as well for the image allowing for the day blue sky as a backdrop.

Where I was standing on Day 9 of Thirty Days 2011 was a pile of dirt, last year at this time I would have been submerged in water at Berkeley Lake in northwest Denver.  Over the summer the lake was drained as a construction project was started which will provide some additional separation from Interstate 70 as well as other improvements in the area.  As the lake was drained this summer, plenty of treasure hunters made their way to the location to search for old coins, jewelry and anything else which may have been lost in the lake over the years.  Even today months after the lake was drained there are still people out with metal detectors looking for treasure.  The image for today are the pilings from the old pier in the lake, and most people may not even know existed.

This evening I was heading to an event in Boulder, Colorado so I planned the image for Day 8 of Thirty Days 2011 on being in the area around sunset.  There are many options to photograph in the Boulder area and after a little thinking about the time of day I decided on photographing from the Boulder Overlook along the Turnpike.  At first I was thinking of a specific image, however when this did not materialize I watched the sunset and the traffic heading to and from Boulder.  This then became the photograph for the eighth day of the project.

On a side note, I am looking forward to putting together a few images as a panoramic I took this evening a few minutes prior to this image and hope to share later this month.

There is a tree in Washington Park here in Denver, Colorado which I have photographed many times before. (Snowy May Day and Winter in Washington Park)  On Day 7 of Thirty Days 2011 I was heading in this direction to an event at the University of Denver, when I decided to take a detour to the tree.  With my camera in hand, I captured some of the images I have before.  After a little while I played around with some new angles which led to the image for today’s image.

On Sunday (Day 6 of Thirty Days 2011), The Hatch Foundation hosted The 6th Annual Meanest Chili Cook-Off which I photographed for them at The Oriental Theater.  During the event, thirteen different chili’s were tasted with some gluten free and a vegetarian option in the mix.  The results were quite close, and in the end there was a tie for the winning chili this year.  The event raised money for The Fisher House, which provides a home away from home for our veterans, active military and their families.

As with most major cities, the suburban areas of Denver were once filled with farms which are slowly being sold and turned into housing developments as the population base grows.

The image for Day 5 of Thirty Days 2011 is one of these fields, however this field in the northwest portion of the metro area is surrounded by homes which are easily twenty years old.  I have driven past this field in the past and have always noticed the contrast between the different areas of the farm.  Working carefully not to include the surrounding homes I captured the above image for today’s image.

The fourth day of Thirty Days 2011 was one of those days where you wish there was more time in the day.  With the final preparations for the First Friday Art Walk at the gallery nrc I was able to sneak out for just a little while when dropping off some packages at FedEx.  On the way back I stopped by Rocky Mountain Lake Park and walked near the lake.  With some nice afternoon sunlight and the change of seasons on a nice fall day in Denver, I photographed near the lake for today’s image.

Walking around northwest Denver today, there was plenty of snow melting.  At first I was concentrating on some images of the difference since yesterday, however walking back to gallery nrc I passed by the Pearl Velo bicycle shop and noticed part of a bicycle sitting outside.  With just the frame, crankshaft and chain, it was quite interesting. After a few images, I took an image of the chain which is the image for Day 3 of Thirty Days 2011.
