Denver Towards the Foothills

January 18th, 2012 by Neil Corman

Cross and Sports Authorty Field in the Evening

Recent Work

Last week I showed a recent image of the sun setting over Sports Authority Field at Mile High.  This week the recent image is also from the same location, during the same football game where the Broncos lost to the New England Patriots.  After the sun set I continue to photograph dusk in the Denver area.  In my location I knew the light rail train would be passing by every 10 to 15 minutes and this was going to be my concentration at this time as I wanted to capture the motion.  As the evening progressed, the new lights at the stadium started to illuminate as well in addition to the cross located on Mount Lindo in the foothills. You may know much of the discussion around the Denver Broncos this year has been faith and the location of the cross from my position helped tie these two together.

Steps to the Ocean

January 16th, 2012 by Neil Corman

Steps to the Ocean in California

This week the getaway picture is from La Jolla Cove just north of San Diego.  In November 2009 I headed to this area to photograph, with a storm having moved through the area over night as well as high tide the water was coming up to the steps down to the cove bringing man and nature merging in the scene.  Spending some time to capture the scene brought me the above photograph as well as some wet feet from standing on the landing for a couple of shots as well.

The Week-End (January 14th)

January 14th, 2012 by Neil Corman

This weekend brings a three day weekend to many people here in the Denver area.  As a reminder most state and federal offices will be closed on Monday for the MLK holiday.  In addition there is no mail delivery, and in Denver parking meters are free.

National Western Stock Show Parade

A parade through downtown Denver always kicks off the annual stock show.

Some events you may want to check out this weekend:

  • The National Western Stock Show continues the 2012 edition on this middle weekend of the show.
  • If you are in the Longmont area you may want to check out the show “Street Creed: Graffiti Art from Concrete to Canvas” which runs through January 22nd at the Longmont Museum.
  • It may be winter, but the Denver Boat Show has dropped anchor in Denver this weekend.
  • After an overtime win this past Sunday, the Broncos play in New England on Saturday evening.  The game is on CBS.
  • The Colorado Mammoth kick off their 2012 season at Pepsi Center this evening.
  • Up in Aspen the Winterskol four-day festival is taking place.  Look for plenty of activities around the town as well as fireworks.
  • On Monday, the annual MLK Marade takes place from City Park to Civic Center Park.  The Marade starts at 9:00 A.M.

You know of any other events happening this week in Denver?

Denver Art Museum in the Snow

January 12th, 2012 by Neil Corman

Snow at the Denver Art Museum

From the Archive

Just over a year ago I was out photographing during a snowfall in the Denver area.  It was a quiet evening however one of the exhibits at the Denver Art Museum was attracting patrons even during this weather.  I set-up my tripod at the southern end of the museum complex to photographing the people walking by as well as the city in the background on this winter night in Denver.

Sunset over Sports Authority Field

Sunset over Sports Authority Field in Denver

Recent Work

About a month ago, I was out photographing while the Denver Broncos were playing the New England Patriots at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.  As the sun began to set over the rocky mountains, from my location it set right over the stadium.  This was a shot I had planned ahead of time, as I thought the wave of the stadium lighting would be interesting with the sun positioned over the stadium.  While the Broncos did not win this game against the Patriots, they will play them once again this weekend in New England.

Sunrise at Sunset Beach

January 9th, 2012 by Neil Corman

Sunrise at Sunset Beach in Oahu

It’s the start of a new week, and while you are back at work you may be thinking about that next trip somewhere.  Each Monday we will help you realize that dream with images of locations outside of Denver.

On my final day on the North Shore of Oahu, I woke up early to make my way towards the Banzai Pipeline. As the early hint of light started to appear in the sky, I knew Sunset Beach Park would be my destination. Using a long exposure and the morning light, the magic of this location is discovered in a simple photograph. On this morning as I photographed the changing skies and weather it proved to be a lasting reminder of my visit to Oahu.

Light Rail near Union Station

January 5th, 2012 by Neil Corman

Light Rail at Union Station Denver

Light Rail near Union Station

From the Archives

In late 2010 I was exploring Denver during a late snowfall in the city.  At this time some of the construction in the Union Station area had started near the Millennium Bridge, however if you walked past this it was business as normal.  I started to set up a scene to photograph in hopes the light rail train would depart soon.  Just after framing the picture, the train departed and with a 15 second exposure captured the motion of the train as it headed south.
