One of the newer additions to the Washington DC area is the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge. While the previous bridge had been named for the abolitionist Frederick Douglass in 1965, the new bridge retains his name adds an arch design versus the prior swing bridge built in 1950. The Frederick Douglass National Historical Site is a short distance from the bridge.
I was walking around Washington and the ballpark area when I came upon the bridge. The arches of the bridge drew in my focus in this image and finding a spot at the northern end of the bridge found me letting the arches flow in and out of the frame. The change to black and white for this photograph was do let the arches blend into the sky and minimize the contrast between the two elements.
