Heading south on the Alaska Railroad from Fairbanks to Anchorage is quite an experience. In early March one year I took this trip and was fortunate to have nice conditions, and yes cold, as the train made the twelve-hour journey. As we passed through the Alaska Range the low clouds provided scenic views along with temperatures near zero as I watched from an open window in the train.
